Salesforce, an enterprise CRM and AI platform company listed on the NYSE as CRM, has announced that the U.S. Air Force 441st Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron, known as VSCOS, is using Missionforce National Security to manage a fleet of more than 84,000 vehicles across nearly 389 locations. The fleet carries a value of $13.5 billion and supports more than 7,300 personnel. The 85-person squadron selected the platform after its previous legacy fleet management system reached end of life and required a replacement capable of handling that scale.
VSCOS manages vehicle fleet operations for the Air Force globally, covering maintenance, logistics, contingency planning and equipment distribution. Before the migration, data was spread across separate ERP systems of record, including a system called ELMS, and the previous platform experienced outages that could last days. Missionforce National Security, which runs on Salesforce Government Cloud Plus Defense and carries IL5 authorization, consolidated those data sources into a single environment that gives squadron personnel and commanders a unified view of vehicle status, inventory and requests.
Since deployment, the platform has processed more than 51,000 requests, with base personnel using the system to log vehicle arrivals, update equipment status and coordinate movement of assets across locations. Reporting accuracy has improved through the ability to compare real-time data and inventory lists from a single interface, with reusable components allowing personnel to put new tools into production faster.
One concrete outcome involved a contingency planning application called MELRAT, built on Salesforce. Before MELRAT, identifying eligible inventory for contingencies such as Presidential support required days of manual work. The application reduced that process to minutes.
Kendall Collins, CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce, framed the deployment in terms of what a small team accomplished at scale: "The 441st VSCOS is a masterclass in how a lean, mission-focused team paired with Salesforce can drive real global impact. By consolidating onto a single, interoperable platform with Missionforce National Security, the Air Force has turned fragmented logistics operations into a strategic advantage. This is delivering improved visibility for commanders, reduced service downtime, and helping ensure vehicles are ready to roll when the call comes."
Bill Pessin, SVP of National Security at Salesforce, connected the Air Force deployment to the company's broader positioning within the Department of War: "We made a strategic bet on the future of national security by aligning the right people, processes, and technology to scale with the DoW and the Intelligence Community. This work with the USAF is a culmination of that foresight, delivering the digital superiority and multi-tenant scale required to meet operational demands. With a unified view, our customers can perform critical national security tasks with the visibility, coordination, and operational control needed to move at mission speed, helping to ensure our warfighters and intelligence officers maintain decision advantage."
The migration has also set up VSCOS for planned AI integrations the squadron is currently exploring. These include automating manual data entry into systems of record, validating vehicle identification numbers and evaluating vehicle sensor data to predict maintenance needs before failures occur. A budgeting tool that would calculate the number of vehicles fundable within available budget, based on weighted criteria without manual calculations, is also under development. Field service and operations capabilities are planned for a future release.
