Vercel, a U.S.-based cloud platform valued at US$9.3 billion, has acquired Egyptian infrastructure startup Stakpak, expanding its portfolio of AI development tools with autonomous DevOps technology. The acquisition is the third completed by Vercel in less than a year as the company broadens its focus beyond web application hosting.
Founded in 2023 by George Fahmy, Stakpak developed one of the first open-source autonomous DevOps agents. The company initially launched an AI-powered assistant that generated infrastructure-as-code configurations from natural language prompts before evolving the product into a production-grade platform for infrastructure automation. According to the company, the technology can reduce infrastructure management tasks from nearly four hours to around 50 minutes.
Beyond infrastructure automation, Stakpak introduced open-source agent frameworks and AI-driven infrastructure security systems that gained adoption among developers building self-managing cloud environments.
The startup raised US$500,000 in pre-seed funding early last year before becoming part of Vercel. The acquisition supports Vercel's broader effort to build an AI infrastructure platform capable of supporting software development workflows that increasingly rely on autonomous agents.
Vercel has argued that future software development will depend more heavily on autonomous AI agents rather than human developers working alone. That strategy has been backed by continued investment: in September last year, the company raised US$300 million in a Series F funding round that valued the business at US$9.3 billion.
